USING THE CORRECT PATTERNS
Patterns are used to give life to a plain
background. Its purpose could also be to
brighten up a series of big and dull designs.
There are many forms and styles of pattern for
you to choose from.
Using wallpapers is the easiest way to
produce a patterned style. The only backside is
that many houses may have used the same
wallpaper design already. That makes it
ordinary, unless you can get to a store that
sells only a few pieces of their designs or a
shop that have customized wallpapers for their
services, which may cost you a bit more.
Through the years, patterns have evolved from
stripes and dots to varying forms including ones
you would not have thought of before. Since
there are no guidelines how a pattern is
created, your limit goes as far as your
imagination does. Think of a flowing water and
so you create patterns of curves. Imagine a
woven mat and you get crisscrossing patterns of
vertical and horizontal lines. Recall scenes and
objects that make you relax and create patterns
from them. Now, for a specific style for a
particular type of room, the following tips
might help:
for smaller rooms, you might want to
consider smaller prints for they create an
illusion that the room is spacious
if you have a big space, you can use large
patterned images or shapes to create a the cozy
feel
for low-ceiling rooms, vertical lines are
recommended
and for dome-like or high-ceiling rooms,
horizontal lines should be used
if there’s one object in that room that you
feel very strongly about, you can use it as your
basis for your patterns; and
for an infant’s or a kid’s room, the best
pattern is one that is based on color whether
they are stripes, circles or any shape.
On these contemporary times, even objects
have become subjects in creating a patterned
design. Think of flowers, animals, houses, cars,
leaves – just let your imagination do its
course. The consistent or repeating use of a
particular object – lines, objects, styles,
fabric or colors - creates a pattern. Go ahead
and start creating your own now!
