KIDS ROOM
Why do we dedicate a page for the kids’ room? It’s simple. Kids are active and spend most of their time playing. They love colors and fun things. We’ve been talking about general tips in designing your home, but it’s mostly from an adult’s perspective. Adults are usually tired when they get home and the last thing they need is a series of distracting colors that could only stress them more. So, it’s assumed that what you apply on your living room, kitchen, and your masters’ bedroom are all almost plain and calm, or simply put, all for adults. Here, we give kids’ room a separate treatment because they deserve to.
Select a theme and have your kid decide which. The purpose of this is to involve your kid in something that he or she is totally part of. When they become part of something, they also tend to feel responsible and you may just be lucky when they proactively help in keeping the room clean and tidy. Some of the most popular themes for kids’ room are Barbie, Hello Kitty for girls and Spongebob, Spiderman and other heroes for boys.
When selecting for what color to paint the wall of your room, it is best to consider the age of the child, because different ages may respond to different colors. A baby only sees white, gray and black but as he or she grows, the sight develops and bright colors become visible, first red then blue and so on and painting the walls bright colors might confuse the child. So, during early ages, light colors are always a safe choice.
Keep a cabinet for all the toys and game accessories, where they will be kept after use. A big basket is also a good option. If you don’t have this, you might wake up with a heap of destroyed toys scattered over the floor, or a cluttered room after having it fixed.
The windows in a kid’s room should not have thick curtains to allow enough sunlight in. This helps your kid’s mood and it also allows enough vitamins from the sun. For the curtains, look for a shade that matches the theme.
