GETTING STARTED WITH
STYLE SELECTION
It’s like having an outline for your
writing tasks; deciding on a style is a
critical and important step before
getting on with your interior decorating
project. It is critical because without
it, you may either lost track of what
you want in the middle of the project or
totally veer off from what you wanted.
So, to get you started, here are some
styles and themes for you to choose from
or for you to combine together:
Casual Style This is the most common
style because of its simplicity, and its
warm and comfortable look. The casual
style of decorating is characterized by
either all-cornered all or all smooth
rounded edges of furniture, textured
fabric, horizontal patterns and
asymmetrical arrangements. Lighting is
soft with this style of decorating.
Formal Style Entirely opposite of
casual style is the formal style. Its
elements are shiny and breakable
accessories, sheers, glossy fabric and
expensive wall hangings such as
paintings.
Mediterranean Style Relaxation is
the keyword when selecting this style of
decoration that’s why the Mediterranean
style is usually the best style for
Salons and massage spas. So if you are a
person who needs to be always awake, you
might be better off with another style.
This style’s elements are simple lines,
big blocks of objects with bright but
plain colors and combination of shapes.
French Style What could be more
teeming with style than the French way
of decorating? French style is full of
details, up to the smallest bit of
accent. Because of this attention to
small items that makes time one
important factor to consider. Beads,
buttons, cords, ribbons and frames make
up styling more stylish. Fabric also
plays an important role in creating that
look. Soft draperies with beads are
sometimes used as wall hangings.
Country Style If one style has stood
the test of time, it’s country style,
and for sure it has been evolving
including the materials used to create
it. Earthy colors were usually used to
paint chairs and tables but not for
long. Green and rustic are also under
the country style criteria now. Calico
or any vintage fabric is another great
way to express this style.
